Why does an external monitor works in Linux but not in Windows?

I have a laptop (Dell Precision 5530) that used to work with my external monitor (Dell SE2417HG 23.6") before a trip I made to the U.S. early January. When I came back, all of a sudden the external monitor stopped working.

Windows manages to detect it and says everything is ok but it's just not sending any HDMI signals to the monitor. I've been trying a bunch of stuff since and nothing seems to work.

These are a list of things I tried in no particular order:

  1. I tried connecting the monitor to another co-worker's laptop to isolate the problem. it worked
  2. Tried loading linux on my laptop to see if it would work and it did.
  3. Tried clean installing both the internal graphics (Intel UHD 630) and the Nvidia graphics (Quadro P2000).
  4. I tried updating my BIOS.
  5. I tried reinstalling Windows (clean install).
  6. I tried running Windows 10 instead of Windows 11.
  7. I even tried Windows 7.
  8. I tried deleting registry files.
  9. I tried cloning a working system (co-worker's) but stopped because of space issues, maybe this is my only way out I don’t know. need an external hard drive for the cloning.

At this point I don’t know what’s left to try.

I hope to be someone that can fix these things but having a problem this close to home that I cant fix really sucks.

Am I missing something fundamental?
