I want to duplicate a dual monitor setup attached to the same Windows 11 PC between adjacent rooms for the purposes of switching between a sitting and standing desk multiple times throughout the day. Ideally with relatively little effort (unplugging and replugging cables into ports would not be feasible).
Tech Specs:
Windows 11 PC
Nvidia GTX 1070 GPU (2 HDMI, 1 DP, 1 DVI-D)
2 HDMI monitors, 2 DVI monitors, all with identical refresh rates and resolution
Passive HDMI and DVI switch
My first attempt at this did not work out quite like I had wanted. I had planned for it work as follows: Monitor A1 and monitor B1 in room 1, monitor A2 and B2 in room 2. Monitor A1 and A2 attached to splitter 1(hdmi), monitor B1 and B2 attached to splitter 2(dvi-d). To switch I would simply turn one set of monitors into standby mode and turn the other monitors on. Unfortunately my plan did not account for EDID signals, apparently when one signal on a splitter is lost it becomes impossible for the other monitor on the splitter to either receive or display a signal. While my setup technically does work with all 4 monitors on at the same time that is wastefulness I would like to avoid.
Any suggestions for how I might remedy this or at least get close to my original goal? In retrospect it may have been smarter to have gotten monitors for each display port type on the GPU, the need for two DVI monitors to share a port is probably limiting my flexibility.
